ABOUT KEYZ OF LIFE
In 2010 Anthony “Durty Keyz” James from production duo Burd & Keyz passed away suddenly from a bacterial infection called Streptococcus. He was 23 years old. Before he passed, he had started a project called Keyz of Life. In his honour his production partner Andrew “Burd” Liburd decided to finish the project. Featuring artists like Kardinal Offishall, Luu Breeze, Nickelus F, SonReal, Blake Carrington, Shi Wisdom, A-Game, OmarLunan aka Oh!, Promise, Redway, Rich Kidd, Rochester, Divine Brown and more, Keyz of Life not only pays homage to Keyz but also to his flourishing home city of Toronto.

The long awaited Black Magic mix is finally here! This is the first time DJ Big Jacks has dropped a release of this kind featuring 70 + minutes of modern soul magic from the late 70′s and early 80′s. While certain tracks have been sampled by the likes of Jay-Z, Dilla, and Madlib among others, the focus here is not who has sampled what. The classics never go out of style.  When three emcees from Toronto get together to collaborate on a track for the love of hip hop, only goodness can come out of it.  In 2010, when Dan-e-o was visiting Kish in L.A., the two were talking about future collaboration projects. While reminiscing about their favourite old school tracks, and memories of Concert Hall shows, Kish suggested to Dan-e-o that they do a cover of Biz Markie’s The Vapors.   After reconnecting with Maestro while he was in LA, Kish had found the perfect third emcee to round out the track. The only missing piece was a DJ.  Maestro suggested his sister, DJ MelBoogie, and the rest was hip hop history.

This project was done out of love for the music.  After threading a logistical needle for quite some time, the group managed to align schedules and studio time to complete the project.  Beyond doing it for the love of hip hop, the track marked some firsts for this team:  Vapors 2012 is the first collaboration between Maestro and Dan-e-o, along with being the first collaboration between Wes and his sister MelBoogie. For Kish, this was only the second song he’d recorded after a 15 year hiatus.

To compliment the song, Kish asked phenomenal artist, Sean “Cheeks” Galloway, who did character design for the animated Spiderman series, to create some artwork to accompany the release

A hard hitting production layered with horns and an infectious bassline, “For the Change” features Emcees Tona, Adam Bomb, Progress, Frankie Payne and Theo3 weaving in and out with rapid fire flows that rise in intensity with every line. DJ Jazzy Jeff and Ayah today released the new video for “Forgive Me Love,” a single from their highly regarded Back for More project. The video, directed by Toronto’s Slakah the Beatchild is beautifully executed with a thought provoking twist. Viewers will be left reflecting on the very real situations in this cautionary portrayal.
