Fuck the world don’t ask me for shit!
Snatched this from our peoples over at The Meaning of Dope. They got a whole Biggie week goin on over there lots of rare footage.
I Checked out Notorious this weekend and I must say it wasn’t as bad as I expected it to be, turst me I had loooow expectations. I wasn’t mad at any of the acting, some parts were skipped over like the Unsigned Hype article in the Source, which was mainly responsible for his discovery, and I don’t think you really got the sense of who some of the people around him were but hey, it’s a movie not a documentary. If you’re a fan I’d say take it in.

Flashback: You Can’t Stop The Flex
From the same folks that brought us this. Here’s another Rap City flashback.
We’ve had some debate as to when this record actually dropped, ’94 or ’95? This is just more evidence it was 1995.
Ghetto Concept! I ain’t got to tell you this is a classic, the legendary Grassroots on production, this joint was also the introduction to Infinite.
I never realized Much let cursing on air back then, never noticed it. The shot of the people in studio just sitting there is funny compared to today’s MOD frenzy.
Enjoy.
Flashback: Young, Fresh and Green
First off props to Dj O.S.U.M. for having this, and Fatski for forwarding this. MuchMusic’s Rap City used to be dope for spotlighting Canadian acts, no record deal or publists required, just recognizing talent. The show has gone through many phases from Micheal Williams and his sleevless shirts jheri curls to Oliver and his obvious little knowlege of the scene. It was an outlet though. Times have changed.
Lets flashback to 1995 and a crew of young MC’s out of the Fresh Arts program called Figures of Speach (F.O.S.). As far as I’m concerned these cats raised the bar for Hip Hop in this city, Saukrates, Marvel, Kardinal Offishall, Y-Look, Solitair, man the crew was deep with spitters. For more classic material check our peoples over at The Meaning of Dope, and our man O.S.U.M on YouTube.
Unlocking The Vault: Q-Tip – Live @ The Renaissance

“The Renaissance” is my pick for album of the year at the Real Freq Awards. It was a tough choice between it and “Tronic” but I had to give the edge to Tip because he came out of nowhere and redeemed himself big time. Another reason I had to give him the edge is because an early copy of the album leaked in late 2006, and if you listen, you will notice it is almost completely different from the version that hit stores, so big up to Tip for going back into the studio and re-working the album instead of just adding 2 or 3 new joints to it like many emcees do nowadays after a leak springs. Differently Still Guy Episode 13 w/ K-Cut
In the short history of DSG we’ve had some ill episodes, Maestro was sick, the hilarity of J-Wyze but, unlucky episode 13 is by far the best. Not because we go track for track with K-Cut, one third of Main Source, on the classic Breakin’ Atom’s record to uncover a track aimed at Eric B, the origins of mentor Paul C, the creative process behind JustHangin’ out. That’s all good, BUT! We got the uber sclusie, never heard before selcct cuts from the original second Main Source album “The Science” that never made it out to your or our grubbly little hands. This was so sclusie the sclusie exec was left at the door while we listened. Keez had to open his own door. Hip Hop Nerds! Enjoy…
Unlocking The Vault – Large Professor – The LP

“Rapper Nas on topic, seems we gonna rock it/Queens represent, buy the album when I drop it!”
Well, the album finally “dropped” as a promo-only CD without any cover art or track list that was given away online with the purchase of the “The First Class” LP. It’s really a shame it didn’t get a proper release due to the classics that are on here. The only joints I’m not crazy about on here are “Funky 2 Listen 2″ and “Spacey”. Enjoy.
01 Sunrise
02 One Plus One Ft. Nas
03 Hard
04 Spacey
05 For My People
06 Hungry
07 Get Off that Bullshit
08 Funky 2 Listen 2
09 Dancing Girl
10 Have Fun
11 Ijuswannachill
12 The Mad Scientist
Unlocking The Vault: 9th Wonder – Black Album Rejects
The story goes that this is the beat tape that 9th initially gave to Jay-Z when he was taking submissions for “The Black Album”. Jay wasn’t really feeling any of these beats and told 9th to take the R. Kelly sample and do something on the spot with it. “Threat” was the result of that challenge, which made the album and boosted 9th’s career.
I personally think Jay was hating because there are a ton of hot beats on this CD, which ultimately got scooped by various artists (Little Brother, De La Soul, Jean Grae, etc.). 9th probably thought so too since some of the beats appeared on the Black Album Remix LP, “Black Is Back”, he did. Anyways, nuff said, check out the 32 beats on this joint!
Unlocking The Vault: Planet Asia – Life As It Is

This was the album that was supposed to come out on Universal and propel Planet Asia to mainstream status back in 2002. It definitely had the potential to do that with the collabos and producers that were enlisted and with how hot Asia was at the time. Unfortunately, Universal did not see it that way for one reason or another. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the album the way it was intended to be (minus the mastering ofcourse haha).
A lot of these joints did come out on various projects Asia dropped thereafter, but there are 10 unreleased joints (*) on here that have not seen the light of day. Check the jump for the track listing and link. Read the rest of this entry »
Unlocking The Vault: Pete Rock – More Petestrumentals

Any self-respecting hip-hop aficionado should have Pete Rock’s “Petestrumentals” in their collection. If you don’t, shame on you for cheating yourself out of perfectly good heatery. This isn’t actually beats that didn’t make the album, but rather a beat CD that leaked around 2003 containing 32 beats. I can only recognize two beats on here that were used (6: Planet Asia and 27: The Kreators – “Night Life”).
MCs, get your spit on if you feel inclined to do so. Who knows, if its hot, we might play it. I suggest beats 4, 21, 22, 23, or 25.
