D.O.P.E.

Displays Of Pure Excellence

Even if you’re not a Soccer fan, you gotta appreciate placement like that… Ruben De La Red from my favourite squad swag splashes the Valencia defender and goalie. Cheeky… I think the announcer would co-sign me on that.

This kid doesn’t score that often from the stats I saw, but when he does (LOL at Van Nistelrooy hitting his head on the bench in awe), he definitely gets his style points.

Got the Funky Drummer Drummin’…

24 08 2008

Much of Hip Hop beats are based on James Brown’s sounds and patterns. Clyde Stubblefield was one of the men who came up with and performed them, known as the “Funky Drummer” he is credited with coming up the most sampled drum loop period. Propellerhead, makers of production software Reason had a Producers Conference this past weekend featuring Clyde, and the Dj that brought sampling to Hip Hop, Dj Marley Marl, creator of the Juice Crew, producer of LL Cool J’s classic album “Mama Said Knock You Out”. This was too much foundation and history to pass up. Here are some clips from the conference.

Shad K - The Old Prince Lives At Home (Video)

22 08 2008

Check out the latest video from New North alumni, Shad K, and his album “The Old Prince” which dropped year and was definitely one of the best Canadian albums to be released.Hot Dog Garbage production house and Shad combine to re-create everyone’s favourite opening theme from Will Smith’s Fresh Prince Of Bel Air with incredible detail. It’s dope to see Shad paying homage to classic material we all grew up on, while putting his own spin on it.

Unlocking The Vault: Jane Doe - The Introduction LP

21 08 2008

88 KeysPlus SignJane Doe

Who?! Jane Doe! Who?! Jaaane Dooeee! Remember her from Blackstar’s “Twice Inna Lifetime” or perhaps Tribe’s “Rock Rock Y’all”? I happened to notice that some of my fave blogs were posting joints from her unreleased album courtesy of producer 88 Keys (who produced the LP), so I thought I’d hook yall up with the whole thing.

Don’t be mad at me, 88, for the record, this LP has been out there (the net) since 2003, you just have to know where to look.

Jake One - White Van Music LP Tracklisting

18 08 2008

Jake One

Had to post this the minute I saw it, official tracklisting from the source himself. Definitely been anticipating this since the last time Jake came through the show and announced this was on the way. The lineup on paper looks like a hip-hop fantasy league where Jake got 4th pick (right in the middle… if you been in one, you know its a good look). If you’re not familiar with the body of work, catch up. Read the rest of this entry »

Unlocking The Vault: The UN - World Domination Mixtape

15 08 2008

The UN

“How did World Domination come about?

Roc Marciano: Actually, I don’t know how it got out like that, honestly. I know we had a collective couple of songs that was…’cos we was workin’ outta Green Street studios before they had shut down. We was workin’ out of there a lot with Pete, so I think that was just to throw something out. Cats had been asking and we had had a lot of stuff that we had did in there, so we just put together that. But as far as how it got out there? Out and about? I didn’t put it out, so I don’t know how it got out there like that.”

Little info from the copy that I got of this mixtape:
“This was advertised on hiphopsite.com for less than one day and it sold out.

1-on-1 With 1 of Long Island’s Finest

15 08 2008

Roc Marcy

I don’t normally read too many interviews, but I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to catch up on one of my favourite MCs at the moment! Roc Marciano has been killing joints ever since he first blessed “Petestrumentals” (think “Cake” and “Nothin’ Lesser”) and appropriately we have been killing everything that has dropped, from the The UN LP, to his solo mixtape.

Anyways, everything you need to know about this man can be found in his very thorough Unkut interview HERE!

Also, check out my latest entry of “Unlocking The Vault” for that rare “World Domination” mixtape featuring several unreleased joints!

Also, check out a performance from beatbox prodigy, Skratchcat, at Dax’s birthday jam that went down this past Friday (sorry I couldn’t make it fam!).
