Jason Goldwatch provides some powerful visuals for The Roots‘ latest single from their new LP, “How I Got Over”, which drops tomorrow. The album is another solid effort from The Roots, who never seem to dissapoint.

1. Less than a week after it’s release, Drake’s debut LP “Thank Me Later” has already reached platinum status in Canada. For those not aware, that does not mean he’s sold 1 million units (yet… hopefully) but rather 100,000, which is the plateau for platinum status in Canada. Definite congrats go out to Drake, as he also picked up two MMVA awards last night, one for Hip-Hop Video of the Year and another for Cinematography of the Year, both for his hit collaboration with Trey Songz “Successful”.

2. Congrats also go out to K’Naan, who also picked up the award for Most Watched Video of the Year for “Wavin’ Flag”. He will be hitting the road alongside Shad this fall and the two will be doing several shows together through Canada, including a stop in Toronto on October 1st. Shad’s latest effort, “TSOL”, has been getting rare reviews and great support from fans, reaching #2 on iTunes in Canada, so be sure to check it out if you haven’t already.

3. Up-and-coming producer C4 will be releasing his new mixtape called “The C4 Experiment” this week, which will consist of new original music featuring the likes of Choclair, King Reign, A-Trak, Solitair, Troy Dunnit, and many more of Canada’s finest artists. Be on the lookout for it, as it will be available for free download on The Real Frequency blog.

Brand new leak from my man C4‘s upcoming mixtape, “The C4 Experiment”, which should be dropping this week and is presented by HipHopCanada, EscapeMTL, and yours truly. Montreal’s Troy Dunnit connects with Black Jays representative Solitair to rock over some C4 production, resulting in a fresh summertime joint.

Whenever Kurupt and Pete Rock hook up, the results are usually dope, this one is no different. Taken from Kurupt’s latest LP with producer Terrace Martin, “Streetlights”.

9th Wonder and David Banner team up with Illusive Media for the official visuals for another cut off their collaborative album “Death Of A Popstar”. Wasn’t expecting the video to turn out like this based on the lyrics of the song but creative stuff regardless.

Onra is a French producer who will be releasing his album “Long Distance” on July 13th. This is one of the best joints from it. If you’re into more than just hip-hop, definitely be sure to pick it up, as it’s a great fusion of hip-hop, funk, and electronic music.

More heat from the production trio Fat Thursday (Big Tweeze, DJ Fase, and Scam), as Big Tweeze provides a lovely backdrop for Theology 3 and Ski to talk about the fairer sex. Add a classic Ghostface sample and you have a banger.
