Was not able to catch the BET awards last night due to the start of the NBA Season, so I caught this over at NahRight and had to throw it up for y’all since I missed it last night and would only watch the awards just for this segment alone, as this is the only good thing that comes from the award show. Of all the emcees in this cypher Black Thought destroys the cypher, Eminem came nice and so did Mos Def. Plus a big shoutout to Drake winning 2 awards last night!!! Check the rest of the Cypher videos after the jump featuring Buckshot, Joe Budden, KRS-One, Wale, & more!

Off The Wall Sessions – Ep. 3 Colin Munroe from OFF THE WALL SESSIONS on Vimeo.

Spotted at 2DopeBoyz, Colin Munroe speaks on his musical influences & upbringing, not being a “hip-hop head”, why he chose to do his “Flashing Lights” cover, and much more. Very interesting interview.

In honour of  Throwback Tuesdays/Thursdays segment, I thought it would be appropriate to post this mixtape that I found courtesy of Tha Original Underground Hip Hop. If you don’t know who DJ Mastermind is and you’re from Toronto, you just can leave your hip hop badge at home, because this DJ was a big cornerstone in the Canadian hip hop scene and still is. Mastermind was one of the first DJ’s in Canada to break Canadian Hip Hop on commercial airwaves and was a big pioneer of our scene. Here’s one of the many mixtapes that Mastermind was putting out on a monthly basis. I used go to TRAXX on College/Yonge back in the day when I was teen to cop these! So here’s one for my old school heads and for anyone who’s is a fan of hip hop in general.

DJ Mastermind – Droppin More Gems 97 (Tape 34)

-Brian “Quackas”

Here’s a K-Os classic, one of  my earlier favourite songs and videos from him. This is K-OS’s first single and video he did back in 1993, which this joint was produced by Clarence Gruff and Dirty Swift of Midi Mafia!

I’ve always firmly believed with the right promotion/marketing, Mathematik could have been Toronto’s answer to Nas. The man embodies hip hop like no other; he breaks (was a dancer in Maestro’s “Let Your Backbone Slide” video), DJs, rhymes!

The audio for this dropped prior to the first scene, now here’s the accompanying scene.

He's The King Cover

You already know this is fire, I don’t need to really say anything except that this isn’t your average mix, as Jazzy Jeff included Michael Jackson‘s album cuts in addition to his most famous records on this mix sponsored by the good people at Undrcrwn. Shouts to Chuck who put me onto this. Track list and link after the jump. Read the rest of this entry »

“Social Light Sounds producer/engineer/DJ etc, Tone Capone stays at the forefront of technology and it’s contribution to hip-hop… Check the man out getting busy on a live DJ set, with his iPhone somehow working with Serato.”

I though my man P-Plus‘ ability to mix and tweet at the same time on air was impressive, but this is just on another level. Peace to Arablak from Social Light Sounds for putting me on.
