Here goes my pick for Throwback Thursday with this classic from Canadian hip-hop pioneers Citizen Kane!

When we talk about women in hip hop in Canada, the first person that comes to mind is the first Lady of Canadian Hip Hop Icon Michie Mee. With Throwback Thursday today, I had to include her first video “Jamaican Funk” and also a rare performance of her live on MuchMusic‘s Electric Circus Courtesy of the fellas over at The Meaning of Dope after the jump.

Lyve

Here’s another remix from Lyve, who will be the show this Monday November 2nd for the New North segment. This time Lyve remix’s Hov’s joint “Hello Brooklyn” feat Lil Wayne and kills it with this sample. Lyve he told me he sampled some cowboy western ish and this came out soon some chill out vibe! Remix is “LYVE” regardless! Shout outs to Lyve again on the link!.

tapes

She’s a Toronto girl putting it down in NYC. She’s recorded with the likes of 9th Wonder, Joell Ortiz and Rah Digga to name a few. She’s got a whole album with Toronto producer MoSS (Ghostface, Black Moon, Slum Village) on the way this winter. And she’s our guest this week on The New North. Eternia joins us for the full 2 hours to catch us up on all things “E” and even manages to get MoSS (a man of few words) to chime in on the details surrounding their upcoming album, “At Last”. The full length promises to take us places we’ve never heard Eternia go. The proof is in the two EXCLUSIVE WORLD PREMIERE JOINTS we drop on this week’s Real Frequency: “It’s Funny” featuring Joell Ortiz and “Day in the life” featuring Tona and Maestro.

Cratery 9: Tapery

“For the 9th installment of our monthly dig diary, the hommie Kaewonder and I took it back.  The contents of Cratery 9 were recorded entirely on a 90 minute cassette.  Don’t ask why. Don’t ask how.  Simply reacquaint yourself with some good old-fashioned tape hiss while Kae and I go 3 for 3 (3 X 3 = 9) on more Soul, Funk, Jazz, Brazilian and Rock bangers from our personal collections.  Highlights include Waltel Branco’s ultra-rare “Meu Balanco” , The Quick’s boogie instrumental “Zulu”, Louie Shelton’s guitar workout “Evolution” and some late 70’s groove from the Muscle Shoals Horns on “Addicted to your love”. Cratery 9.  Straight off the muhfuckin’ cassette!!!!!!!- Arcee

Keezy & Jay Electronica

I’m always an advocate of good talent when I first hear or see it and when I first heard Jay Electronica spit, already knew he would be a problem. If Jay continues working with Just Blaze, his album is going to be certified heat. With that being said, here’s a radio rip of his newest joint courtesy of the homie Illionaire of You Heard That New. This joint is BANANAS! Check the links below with also the lyrics to this heat rock plus a bonus snippet  joint that Just Blaze did with Nas.
