DJ Khalil and Nas in the studio recording “Colors” from DJ KHALIL on Vimeo.

Swiped from DJ Khalil’s blog:

“Here is a song we recorded over a year ago in LA at HOB Studios. This was a dream come true for me, to record a song with one of the most prolific artists in all of music. Busta Rhymes told me that he is our crown jewel, and I would have to agree. It’s an honor to work with some of the pioneers and true greats in hiphop and to live out my dreams. Although the song didn’t make the final cut, I had a chance to produce Nas and collaborate with him in the studio. I coached him thru some of his vocals and we conceptualized the song. A truly incredible experience.

This song is featuring Danny Keys on the hook.”

Nas is one of my favourite artists but its hard to defend him when records like this and their other collaboration “What It Is (Let’s Go Esco)” are left off the “Untitled” album. I swear Nas takes great pride in his unreleased discography because not many MCs are touchin’ him in that department.

Need a late pass for this one. KRS-One gets down with Rich Kidd on a little underground freestyle, literally, while the homies Tone Mason document the action.

*”KRS-One: You hearing this?”*

*”(Mellenius?) from Tone Mason: Ofcourse, this is a Blackberry Bold!*

King Reign

Here’s one of the reasons we had King Reign on The New North in April; he has records like this in the chamber! We brought you sneak peek a few months back, now you get told hold King Reign‘s new single from his upcoming mixtape, featuring 3 of T.O.’s finest, Saukrates, Tona, and Rich Kidd over another ill Rich Kidd beat. “The King Reign Music” Mixtape is coming soon and should also feature the likes of Pharoahe Monch, Boi 1da, and Kardinal Offishall.

King Reign On The New North April 2009 (Part 1) from Real Frequency on Vimeo.

We kicked of the 5th edition of The New North with a man who knows both sides of this hip-hop game; the independent hustle and being on a major label. Having worked with the likes of Saukrates, Pharoahe Monch, and Raphael Saadiq, King Reign joins us to discuss the pros and cons of being independent vs. signing to a major in today’s digital age. He also talks about the “Nomad” album he recorded while signed to Columbia records, his status as 1/4 of Brassmunk, his role in Saukrates‘ music team, as well as his “Audacity Of Hope” EP.

If that wasn’t enough, in part 2 after the jump, he goes on to share his story on how he met Barrack Obama and divulges that he will be releasing “The Reign Music Mixtape” very shortly that will include guest appearances and production from the likes of Saukrates, Kardinal Offishall, Rich Kidd, Boi 1da, and Pharoahe Monch. He also talks about how the first single “Soaring To Heaven” featuring Saukrates, Tona, & Rich Kidd came to fruition. Hit the jump for part 2 and the DJ/Fan pack of the “Audacity of Hope” EP, which includes several joints from King Reign, including “Guilty Party”, “Lookin’ For Love”, and “The Audacity of Hope”.

Ever since “Exhibit A (Transformations)”, I know I haven’t been the only one fiending for another Jay Electronica x Just Blaze collaboration. This trailer only makes that yearning worse, as we get treated to about 15 seconds of this new record, which is once again sounding phenomenal.

Rich Kidd

Two of Canada’s illest producers right now, Rich Kidd and Boi 1da, link up together for a ridiculously ill posse cut featuring the likes of Junia-T (of Smash Brovaz), Arowbe, JD Era, & Frank White & Sinotra. Musiklee Inzane has been murdering this joint for weeks, now you can too!

Rich Kidd f/ Junia-T, Arowbe, JD Era, Frank White, & Sinotra – Cash 4 Me (Prod. Boi 1da) UPDATE: Final, mastered version coming real soon, until then I gotta pull this one.

Rich Kidd will also be featured on our New North singles, “Represent” (King Reign, Rich Kidd, Shaun Booothe, & Richie Sosa) dropping July 28th on iTunes!

No I.D. Speaks On Drake from zachwolfe.com/live on Vimeo.

Spotted at October’s Very Own, legendary producer No ID, probably best known by new jacks as “the guy that produced Death Of Autotune”, speaks on what kind of music he’d like to hear from Drake and why he should diversify his musical focus. Personally, I would have to agree, as I enjoyed the earlier Drake mixtapes (“Room For Improvement” and “Comeback Season”) more so than “So Far Gone”.
