Oddisee talks about taking his music across Europe, making free albums and mixtapes work in your favour, and how download numbers can translate into a pretty comfortable label situation. He also expands on his plans-in-motion to create his own kind of Motown. Here is an excerpt:

“If you go about distributing hip hop the old way you’re gonna be destroyed by leaking and bootlegging. If you’re still subscribing to the formula of ‘My album’s done and I have to give it to press and media three months before and i have to promote a single to college radio if you’re underground, and do touring three months before and three months after‘ you’ll be destroyed by downloading because that nerd motherfucker who woks at the magazine who got it in advance is gonna put it on his blog under some other name. The worst part of that is he’s gonna mis-title that project, he’s gonna put a few of his favourite songs, he’s not gonna credit who produced what, who was on what track, then that’s gonna spread with minimal information… Your songs are ripped apart… You lose the potential of your product.”

^ Oddisee definitely drops some gems in this video and he has the credibilty to back up his statements with albums like “The Diamond District” under his belt. Shouts to Marsha from SoulCulture for the linkage!
