Real Frequency x Kevin Nottingham – In-Depth w/ Foreign Exchange Pt. 2 from Real Frequency on Vimeo.

My man Sean Deez of Kevin Nottingham recently had the opportunity to sit down with Phonte and Nicolay of The Foreign Exchange a couple of hours prior to their sold-out show in Toronto. Since he didn’t have any way of recording the interview, I thought I’d lend a hand to ensure that the opportunity wasn’t wasted.

“Phonte and Nic talk about the very interesting, romantic, and symbol-filled album covers of Connected and Leave It All Behind. A great part of the conversation comes with Phonte talking about one’s interpretation of one of his joints, hilarious ish. The guys also talk about what they “left behind” (baggy jeans according to Nic!) and go in depth with each topic. I also ask Nic about his album name connections from (T)Here to Time:Line, etc, and why they have have this distancing connotation to them. Essentially, we get inside the head of the artist away from the actual music and more behind the context about the product they are putting out.” – Deez

Parts 3-5 coming soon! Stay chuned.

Real Frequency x Kevin Nottingham – In-Depth w/ Foreign Exchange Pt. 1 from Real Frequency on Vimeo.

In Part 1, Sean talks to the fellas about their roots, how they “connected” and working online vs. in the studio, channeling their musical influences into their music, and what blogs they stay up on.

Be on the lookout for Parts 2-5 that will be dropping here and on Kevin Nottingham.

Frank Dukes

Frank Dukes, the T.O. producer behind 50 Cent’s Rick Ross diss “Tia Told Me”, comes through with another joint that appears on 50′s new “War Angel” LP that was just released online. The “War Angel” LP is apparently a collection of 50′s best mixtape joints.

Cratery 5

“This month’s Cratery is proof the weather’s getting a little hotter. And we’ve got the tunes to match: A little dub, reggae, rare groove, disco, funk and some good old fashioned soul music.  The Lowrell record we both hold in our hands wasn’t some drunken attempt at comedy either – it embodies the spirit of this shit.  We both bought Lowrell’s self titled LP years ago for the rare groove classic “Mellow Mellow Right On”, sampled for Common’s “Remind Me”.  Yet I only recently discovered “You’re Playing Dirty”, a rare groove/boogie/modern soul banger after actually giving the rest of the record a chance 10 years later.  Sometimes not listening to your joints can be as fruitful as listening to them.” – ARCEE

Bubbles In The Tub

I’ve been hearing a lot about S-Roc’s alter-ego, Richie Hennesey, but never actually got to hear any of his solo material. Looks like the wait is over:

“Richie Hennessy, otherwise known as S-Roc of Brassmunk presents “Bubbles in the Tub”. A colorful solo-venture that paints a new picture for R&B/Soul or Hip Hop audiences while managing to capture the energy of past works. Production by Jake One, Mellenius of Tone Mason, King Sampson, Robert Strauss, and Thrysite. Artwork by Harold Uyguangco.”
