CKLN 88.1 FM is Canada’s epicenter for urban music. Alot of us heard our first hip hop song on Ron Nelsons’ Fantastic Voyage or the latest house, R&B or dance joint, from Dave’s Dance Music. Before we made our move to comercial radio, 88.1 was our home, holding down that infamous Saturday afternoon hip hop slot that Ron and DJ X built.

It’s doors are now closed due to internal conflict. Programmers Mel Boogie (Droppin Dimez), 7:30 and DJ Linx (The Mixtape Massacre) join us this week on Differently Still Guy to shed some light on the crisis.

Our man Marco Polo has been working with Brooklyn rapper Torae on a collaborative album that will be dropping in June on Duck Down records.  I believe Marco described it as “fighting and killing music” haha.  Looking forward to it

Torae: “Marco, you want to say anything to the people?”
Marco: “Absolutely… not”

The people over at CurrentTV share their views on the social-networking phenomenon that is Twitter in this hilarious short. Although I think Twitter is an innovative idea, because of its simplicity and how it allows people to follow and interact with their favourite artists and celebrities more closely, I do have to agree that the mindless twittering (example: “Just left house… it’s mighty chilly outside”) is a bit too much sometimes. With that being said, follow us on Twitter lol! We promise if we do rant about something, it will be in a creative, tasteful and entertaining manner.

I made the “Wild” Remix beat by playing a sitting bench like a steel drum, the snare is a leaf being crushed on the ground”

Moonsatellite will dropping the TheLAzertape shortly, which will feature more remixes of this fashion over his original beats.  Definitely looking forward to hearing the full version of this Dilla remix and the rest of the tape.

Kid Cudi chops it up with my favourite online gear shop about why “Day N Nite” was so important to him, what producers he’ll be working with on his debut LP, and he has 2 words for those that think he gets over on his sing-song flow too much.

Polyester The Saint and Lazy Lou are L.A.U.S.D. are the production duo behind this great West Coast compilation album.  Enlisting some of the most promising artists from the City of Lost Angels, including Pacific Division, U-N-I, Blu, and Miss Jack Davey to reminisce about their experiences and memories in their high school days.  That’s all I got to say, I’ll let the music speak for itself.  Track list and link after the jump.  Props to Mario on the heads up as usual!

One of T-Dot’s most talented voices, Andreena Mill, joins forces with DJ Lissa Monet to release a mixtape showcasing her skills.  Catch her singing over classic Primo, Dilla, RZA and Kanye instrumentals, as well as original beats by Boi 1da, Rich Kidd, and Colin Munroe.  Couple of guest appearances from Saukrates, Drake, Kardinal Offishall, and Famous don’t hurt either.  Get familiar with Andreena because you’ll definitely be hearing a lot from her in the future.  She was even gracious enough to lend her vocals for the hook to the 2nd New North joint “No Love”  that we recorded w/ Mayhem Morearty, Frankie Payne, and Luu Breeze and turned it into an absolute problem.  Enough talk, hit the jump for the track list and link.
