In the short history of DSG we’ve had some ill episodes, Maestro was sick, the hilarity of J-Wyze but, unlucky episode 13 is by far the best. Not because we go track for track with K-Cut, one third of Main Source, on the classic Breakin’ Atom’s record to uncover a track aimed at Eric B, the origins of mentor Paul C, the creative process behind JustHangin’ out. That’s all good, BUT! We got the uber sclusie, never heard before selcct cuts from the original second Main Source album “The Science” that never made it out to your or our grubbly little hands. This was so sclusie the sclusie exec was left at the door while we listened. Keez had to open his own door. Hip Hop Nerds! Enjoy…

well done gentlemen…you guys as well as cipha and rosenberg are bringing heat weekly!
Thank you, thank you.
Geeeeeeeeeeeeeez.
Next time I see you two, know that the extra long pounds I give you are for this.
A+
I can’t believe he actually played joints off “The Science”. I’ve been bugging K to hear that shit since the very first day I met him – no lie. This is the culmination of 15 years of rap nerdery reaching its climax.
Just to be clear – by climax, I meant me nutting in my pants.
K-cut ain’t all that…..
aaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Kevin is the man. One of the best ever. So much love for this dude. Good to know that those tracks off of THE SCIENCE are actually coming out on Wax in the UK. Main Source forever ya’ll.
What!? Coming out in the UK? Did I miss that or do you something we don’t?
aaron i need some heat…hook a man up with some wax!!!
WICKED INSTALLMENT RIGHT HERE!!!
Breaking Atoms is my shit!!! – one of my top 10 albums of all time for sure. Much respects to K-Cut and Main Source for their contribution to hip-hop history. I need to get my hands on them unreleased joints by any means necessary!!!
wow i came across this today!
———————————————
DWG, in collaboration with DJ Format, proudly presents:
DWGCD01: ‘LUNGBUTTERS: AN ECLECTIC JOURNEY THROUGH YOUR F.M. DIAL’
http://www.soulstrut.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Number=1231644
comes with a 7″ featuring 3 unreleased main source tracks
Available exclusively to purchasers of the Lungbutters CD, DWG7002 features
three unreleased Main Source tracks, possibly the final recordings with Large Pro
on mic duties, recorded circa 92/93. The tracks ooze that classic sound which
the Main Source crew are known for…. the music was
excavated from K Cut’s personal stash of demo tapes intended for the
unreleased “Science” album. Even after remastering these are demo tracks
and the sound quality reflects this (you have been warned!), but the music
was too good to leave in the vaults and we’re happy to be able to offer
them to you at a price that won’t break the bank!
“Bootlegging” – Large Pro takes on the role of the bootlegger on this
lost gem, check the horns, this one features on “Lungbutters”.
“Raise Up” – “The Science” was going to be partially constructed of a bunch
of ‘Interlude’ style vocal tracks – this is one of them.
“Time (alternative mix)” – early demo version of the track recently
unearthed for a Japanese only release on P-Vine/Actual Records.
You can secure your copy of the mix and/or 45 bundle by forwarding Paypal
payment to the following e-mail address:
cdpackage@diggerswithgratitude.com
Prices are as follows:
Lungbutters mix CD – £12
Lungbutters mix CD and Main Source 45 – £17
For multiple purchases just scale up the prices accordingly, if you have
any questions please e-mail cdpackage@diggerswithgratitude.com.
wow k. that was fast.
Another dope episode of DSG. I love hearing the behind the scenes stories involved with creating classic records. Nice work fellas!!!
Oh yeah………Ajax is the shit!!!!!
wow…
K-Cut is a compelling brother – he should write a book on his experience. His stories are legendary.
And The award For “Making John Q’s Day” goes to….
*Drumrolls and other ish crowd does during this time*
REAL FREQUENCY!!!!
Congrats on the award and thanks for tuning into “What’s Up, John Q”
I am your yours host Q (or John), so goodnight (extro from Children’s Story plays in background leading to Breaking Atoms album).
Thanks John. Lovin’ Lyrics to go too homie. Nice work.
Fuck that was dooooope!
Cant wait til you guys bring K-Kut in again… (dont sleep on this!!!)
That Main Source xtendamix vid is up on http://www.themeaningofdope.com, i think…
Also… I learned more about Main Source from the UK guys over at Spinemagazine until today, and im from Toronto… Shouts to mans like Arcee, Inzany, & Pleezy for bringing the heat every week! DSG!!! Crazy!!! Never a weaknight always a freqnight!!!
Hollaaaaaa
I didn’t think you could top the Maestro DSG, but this is just ridiculous.
Second the motion that Arcee is f%*# dope, too.
Keep it up guys… this is more fun than watching KRS-One throw PM Dawn off the stage!
[...] bring OTA’s Ty Harper on a couple episodes back, we had to bump him last episode for K-Cut. He understood, and came back this week. We made sure to warn him prior that we will not talk about [...]
As always guys, great show! I had written this whole big thing about how dope K-Cut is, and how I used to be in quiet awe of him when he would come into Vinyl Museum with Attic, but “The Net” didn’t want to cooperate with me and wouldn’t take my response. Ah well… Breaking Atoms is one of the top three albums for showcasing amazing production techniques. Would love to hear K speak more on that.
The needs to be a Toronto rap history series. Focusing on different eras. Rap nerds (such as myself) would eat that shit up. Keep up the great work, dude!
I meant “dudes”… But you guys get the drift…
YO! This Interview Was The Number One Best Ever I Heard On The Internet Bro! K-Cut Is A Canadian Icon No Doubt! Come On Now, I Was So Entertained – It Was Like I Was Hangin’ With Y’all. Word Up Y’all Thank-You Very Much. I’m Still Buggin’ On The Skillz Of The K-Cut And The Sir Scratch Let Me Get A Piece Of This Record – Funny Ish! Peace.
