Real Frequency Awards 2008

Posted by musikleeinzane under Heateration, Shows

Well another year has come to a close, which signaled the 9th annual Real Freq Awards. The awards are based on what we played on the show, not the entire Hip Hop or music world, which is why we always give the ‘most biased’ awards disclaimer. This time rather than completely dictate the results we just did the nominee’s, and let you vote, check the results below. Shouts to everyone that passed through the show to help us hand out the hardware, grab the show below, to hear the festivities, video coming soon.

If you haven’t seen the HBO series The Wire yet, stop reading now get out from under the rock you’ve been living under and go get it. For those in the know, it is heralded as one of the best show’s ever to hit TV. We have to agree. I was perusing through the hommie Jake One’s blog and noticed I completely slept on a gem that Arcee has been telling me about for a while; the original version of “Glow” featuring 3 solo verses from the lyrical beast Elzhi. If you haven’t picked up one of the year’s best albums, you still have time to redeem yourself. Props to Jake for leaking this, hope to hear more, hommie!

I gave y’all the heads up on this group previously and it looks like they got some big things poppin’ off in the new year, including this documentary about their development and their debut LP “The High Life”, which I’m sure will feature plenty of production from 9th Wonder and hopefully another collabo with Skyzoo. Props to Erica for bringing this to my attention.

Definitely feeling this beat, as usual, Jake One did his thing. Lyrics by Kaze are on point as well. The hook from the chubby T-Pain clone… not so much. If you’re feeling this, be sure to support Kaze or Silent Knight in Loud’s BattleRap contest.

Happy Holidays! Hopefully some of you survived the withdrawal, no DSG for over a week! Wow. We’re back guuuuy. Guy usage, dirty snow, what does it really mean when a couple says ‘we’re trying’ and P Plus stops in to chat about the misunderstood Stephon Marbury.

Not sure how I forgot to post this mixtape because it might be one of the year’s best! Crazy exclusives from Wale, Brother Ali (who’s verse is ridiculous), Colin Munroe, Joell Ortiz,  Charles Hamilton, Blu, Kidz In The Hall f/ Jay Electronica (what a tease, they didn’t include his verse!), Kanye West, Common, Kid Cud (“Rollin” is one of my fave joints right now), Skyzoo, 9th Wonder, Jay-Z, and Daytona! Props to 10Deep and DJ Benzi for putting this together.  Track list and link after the jump.
