We continue with our ever increasingly popular offshoot podcast. This episode, we kick it with our man Maestro, aka Maestro Fresh Wes, aka Mellow D MC. Hell ya! What you will learn this episode, Maestro’s break knowledge, production prowess, his meeting with Nas, when he was nasty, and a sing-a-long with Nice N Smooth.

some of the most fun i’ve had doing radio. ever.
big up stro to the fullest.
people forget that maestro produced a large portion of his own catalog, he was a straight crate digger! by no coincidence, hard to find maestro 12″s are $300 + around the world now. supporting canadian hip-hop pays motherfuckers!!!
you guys go in on this one heavy! i havent even finished listening to this yet but im enjoying eeverything so far.
big up to A for doin some ebay research on the maestro 12″s. ive been seeing those crazy prices happen for a minute now. i had all those LPs/12″s mentioned EXCEPT for conducting thangs, which a few years ago was going for about 200 and the bring it on 12″ was going for 4-500. I believe i have two copies of the “black tie affair” and “naah this kid..” if anyone wants to get their trade on!!!
to sidetrack a second but still on the same tip, the Brasstacks record goes for STUPID money too.
AND a fuckin supreme nyborn name drop!!!!
you guys are fuckin nerds, and i love it!
brass tacks goes for loot???
WTF
who even knows about that?
what other canadian 12″s go for loot?
dude right now almost any obscure limited Canadian hip hop 12″ is worth dough. I just sold the last box of Non-Equation, it’s 10 years old!
guy
who the hell is buying crates of non-equation??
this is straight baffling.
dude found me on myspace asked if there were any copies left he’d take them all! Old underground T-Dot is the hot shit. I had a guy over and all he wanted was obscure T-dot hip hop.
it ain’t a high priced record like some other ish but, people still want it.
you had a guy over?
um. great.
you know I can delete you stupid comments. Ass.
U guys are droppin some serious knowledge on the ppl man..
wow.. K4CE ( hope i spelled corrkt)?? Yo.. dat dude wuz and probably STILL iz ..
…somewhere
I havent finished listening But WORD 2 Maestro.
Itz refreshing 2 hear.
I wanna know If anyone has Thrust’s “Trunk of Funk”Produced by Cyclone.
as we move….
from what ive seen, any indie Canadian hip hop from the 90′s can go for loot. it’s all under that whole ‘random rap’ movement, as the nerds like to call it. other Toronto records/artists ive seen go for money…
anything frankenstein touches!
peach the 5ft trooper
dope poet’s society
anything on groove a lot
citizen kane “black rain” (which i still need btw) or most treehouse releases
mathematik’s ecology album
grassroots ‘drama b/w living under water’
and those are just a few. now if a syndrome aka devious monk album goes for loot, we officially have a problem!!!
But back to the topic at hand. this is an amazing interview and i’m glad i was able to hear it and get schooled on some shit. my respect level for maestro has always been high but after hearing him here he’s raised his stock even more. good job ya’ll!
ps. inzane i have a feeling i know which dude had over at your crib!
ha ha, I post no names.
I wonder what KISH’s album and Rumble’s album goes far cause I still have both of em on vinyl and both of em autographed I was in grade 8 when i copped both of thier albums and will never forget getting Rumbles autograph at his appearance @ Dufferin Mall back in the day!!!
crazy.
Yo this interview was the buckness~
Ive got a couple of them maestro joints on vinyl too…
Damn!!! Didnt know they were going for that much…
But yeah… that interview was crazy… Shouts to mans like the AR and In-zan-eeee!!!
Yo Jacks! Word is those brasstacks guys still have boxes of their vinyl… I got a couple about 3 years back!
Was dope hearing all the behind the scene stuff with Maestro – and how much you guys know about random hiphop ish… You guys are the Gods of knowledge in my book!!!
the crazy part is….there are mad stories we missed….we talked shit with the man for like an hour and it was really nowhere near enough time.
thanks for all the love – who knew our nerdiness would be embraced?
differently still guy, tell a friend about it.
like hdv said, don’t keep it a secret.
HOLLERATE!!!
I think we need a drop sampling M.O.P’s “rap duuuuuuudes” so we can change it to “rap neeeeerds”.
Maestro was dropping the history lesson on this one. Really dope interview. Also a special big up for reminding people about K Force. I was rooting for that dude big time back in the days, and I only heard a little bit. It would be dope if y’all could get him on DSG.
I gotta try and get Force.
Except we’ve never met.
And that might be awkward.
If I truly start acting like a nerd.
Wicked interview. Anybody remember the “I’m showin u” vid? I believe thats his 1st video cause the version on the album is different. Ahh memories
that was an ill ass post. respects on the realness, keep up the great work guys.
p.s.- they ain’t ready for me. if they think you guys curse too much wait until these mother fuckers get a dose of the real sproxx- you already know what it is!
I think we need to do a curse count when you come on. It’s gonna be in the thousands for sure!
[...] the short history of DSG we’ve had some ill episodes, Maestro was sick, the hilarity of J-Wyze but, unlucky episode 13 is by far the best. Not because we go [...]
Hollerate!
