Famous

The New North continues this week with The Kid! Famous. Fame definitely has his stuff together and a solid plan in place, a lot of new artists don’t. Listen to his story from music intern to rising mc, sound familiar…

I told yall it was coming and here it is! I’m kind of dissapointed “Esco Let’s Go” won’t be on the album, but atleast its on here. I still wont’ be happy until a no-DJ version leaks though! I wonder why he changed the lyric from “Picture Amerie eating Free” to “Picture Amerie eating Rocsi”. Either way, a good mental image, no doubt!

Wow, this shit is hilarious, the West Coast don’t play at all! It seems some “DJs” have no morals at all and will do anything… for a couple of hundred dollars?! Bootlegging a FREE mixtape, this is what Hip-Hop has come down to in 2008. Homie got clowned straight up and down, way too many quotables in this… you gotta see for yourself. “The Confessional” mixtape is fire by the way, sporting production from Mr. Porter, Dr. Dre, DJ Khalil, and more. We seemed to overlook Mr. Lamont in our 8 to watch in 2008 at the beginning of the year. I’ll be posting a link to the untagged version when it drops, most likely tomorrow.

UPDATE: So it turns out the version DJ Strong leaked was missing a few joints. Below is the official tracklist plus a link to the UNTAGGED, NO DJ version:

More and more material keeps leaking from the “Untitled” album, which is on Independence Day. First, we have the official single, “Hero” featuring Keri Hilson and produced by Polow Da Don. As usual, Nas keeps the lyrics fresh as ever (3rd verse is phenomenal), the hook is decent, and so is the beat. I could see this getting some radio spins, which is the purpose of it.

Nas f/ Keri Hilson – Hero (Produced by Polow Da Don)

Don’t mean to spoil your appetite for the album, but next on the menu, we have Nas and Busta’s ode to their favourite food. How fitting that this will be on the album. Definitely feeling the wordplay from both, as well as the throwback beat from Mark Ronson.

Nas f/ Busta Rhymes – Fried Chicken (Prod. Mark Ronson)

Finally, we have a joint from the Nas and DJ Green Lantern “Ni**er* mixtape. Produced by DJ Green Lantern, who has been stepping up his production game lately.

Nas – Black President (Prod. DJ Green Lantern)

The third installment of The New North kicks off with London Ontario’s Shad. His album the Old Prince is in a word honest, from his cheap ways to his thoughts on black imagery.

The New North: Shad

Posted by musikleeinzane under Real Talk

Continuing our exposure of Canadian artist making noise. We kick of this session of The New North with Shad, we could ramble on about his talents but, that’s what MySpace is for.

Wale

I know I’m late, so I’m doing this for those just like me and the narcoleptics. To be honest, I wasn’t overly impressed with the first mixtape, “100 Miles and Running”, but Wale definitely stepped his game up on this one. Themed around “the show about nothing”, classic skits from the show are sprinkled on every joint and even the tracklist is kept generic much like episode titles from the show. You can find several elements on this mixtape that are sorely lacking in hip hop; originality, creativity, and substance (he’s not just rapping about kicks anymore). Props to Nick Catchdubs on the mix.

TRACKLISTING
1. “The Opening Title Sequence” (produced by Best Kept Secret)
2. “The Roots Song Wale Is On” f. Chrisette Michele (produced by ?uestlove & James Poyser)
