Skillz

“Now I don’t do that many mixtapes, I think I may have like 5 or 6 to my credit. Maybe because I just dont really get inspired to spit over whats hot right now and leak it to the world. I feel like doing something special when I do something, something that will stand out from what else is being at the moment. Picture me rapping over Lollipop right now?? LOL, aint happening homie! So I came up with this idea to do a mixtape series on decades of music. I had to start with the 90’s cuz that music influenced me the most. And when I started pulling songs it was a zillion, I couldn’t decide on which ones that I wanted to do. So these songs are me paying respect to the cats who inspired me. I still get in the car and pick a week where I just listen to one artist all week whenever Im in the car so I can remember how I felt when I first heard those songs. Like last week I listened to Eric B & Rakim all week long, every song, every album. It helps to inspire me ya know? I can’t get inspired by what I hear on the radio. I titled the songs by their initials so you wont know what I did over until to hear the actual song, so check it out, ride with it (it plays perfect in a ipod) vibe to it and hopefully I can make you feel the way I felt while making it. Shout to Cannon & J. Period for making it with me…look out for future volumes cuz I can do these joints all day long!! LOL! Make a playlist and rock out to…DESIGN OF A DECADE THE 90′S COLLECTION” – Skillz

Skillz’ album Million Dollar Backpack will be in stores July 8th, feat. appearances by Common, Talib Kweli, Freeway and The Roots.

Northern Touch

Stole this from my man Scam’s blog TimeBanditsMusic. A short doc on Canadian Hip Hop featuring many of the pioneers and ground breakers. Funny thing is, has anything changed? It’s like 10 years old, have there really been any advancements? Hmmmmm.

“Glow” is a sample of what’s hopefully to come from the collaborative effort between Royce Da 5’9, Elzhi of Slum Village, and Black Milk. Talks first heated up on this interview from HipHopDX and it seems that a few joints were actually recorded. Feenin’ for more? Check out the joint below from Elzhi’s new mixtape “Euro Pass”, which you will most defi-nite-ly be hearing more from on the show in upcoming weeks. The mixtape is definitely worth the purchase, there are no skippable joints!

Nas on DJ Green Lantern’s show (Sirius Radio)

Nas talks to DJ Clue on Power 105

Nas OnSmash.com Interview

Nas doing this many interviews means only one thing… album is on the way! I’m personally amped for the new album but I must admit Nas always keeps me nervous with the producers he continues to choose. Stic.Man, MF Doom, Jermaine Dupri, and Cool & Dre production sounds intriguing but I’m sure everyone would rather see Just Blaze, Kanye, Primo, and Madlib instead. In any case, we all know Nas has no issues taking chances and with the name of the album alone, let alone the production lineup, he is quite possibly taking the biggest risk of his career. This is why you gotta love the man though. I’m going to stay optimistic about the album seeing as everything he’s dropped lately has been fire. He better perform “What It Is” when he is here @ The Koolhaus on May 24th, good looking on grabbing the tickets T!

Nas – Be A Ni**er Too (Produced by Salaam Remi)

Nas – What It Is (Produced by DJ Khalil)

Nas – War Is Necessary (Off GTA4 Soundtrack)

Finally, the video to one of the hottest joints of the year so far! Definitely feelin’ the way it was shot and the street feel, as it perfectly suits the song and is reminiscent of The Wire.

Kanye

Brand new Kurupt joint produced by the one and only Pete Rock. I believe this was recorded a while ago but it doesn’t sound outdated. Kurupt even switched his normal flow to suit the smooth beat. Even the scratches are on point and you always get extra points with me when you sample Nas. Word is Tha Dogg Pound are working with Pete Rock on an entire album! Let’s hope this is true!

The Professionals Ft. Skyzoo and Tona

Posted by musikleeinzane under Heateration

Hip Hop lives! After a month of shameless promo, selling the artist, beating people over the head etc. The Professionals Vol. 1 went down, as smoothly as we hoped it would. After a minor scare of Sky’s Dj not having a valid passport it all came together at the Rivoli, which has a back room. To my surprise alot of folks didn’t know that, everyone kept going upstairs to the pool hall, ha ha ha ha! When they eventually found their way they were witness to some quality Hip Hop.P held it down on the wheels setting the vibe just right for the evening. Tona and Sky ripped it, proving why we back these two heavily. Even though the turnout wasn’t what we had hoped for, the feedback from everyone involved inspires us to do more, everyone else will catch on eventually.

So to everyone that helped out and came out, thank you. You make this thing we do worth doing.

Here are some pics, and a YouTube clip someone posted.

Here’s a clip of Sky doin “Hold Tight”. Video provided by Blupearl Media.
