Ghostface is not only one of the most consistent MCs, but I’d personally also say one of the funniest as well. Peep this bonus CD that came with his new book, “The World According To Pretty Toney”, for proof. My dude discusses love, hustlin’, nutrition, livin’, and ofcourse Toneology! He even goes on to explain the meaning of “smart dumb ni**as”.

January 6 people, that is the magical day episode 1 of Season 5 of The Wire debuts on HBO. The highly anticipated final season tackles the media and their involvement in city of Bodymore, Murdaland. Of course there’s a ton of subplots as usual, including McNulty back on the wagon, Marlo running into some trouble, Bubz checking into rehab and the return of Avon?. I don’t have to sell this show because if you have seen it, you already know it is phenomenal! Also, check out the official Season 5 theme song by the Real Frequency newcomer of the year, Skyzoo.

Jay Electronica, one of 2007’s hottest newcomers, is poised to make a big splash in 2008. Narrowly losing out to Skyzoo as our newcomer of the year, he is determined to prove haters like Musiklee Inzane wrong. I’m playin’ Inzane, even though you hated initially.

Easily my favourite movie of the year. The Coen Brothers return with a flick destined to go down in history as one of the most original suspense films ever created. Javier Bardem’s performance alone is worth the price of admission. Cinematically brilliant. Unbelievable acting. Phenomenal editing. And absolutely no music throughout the entire flick. Act like the Jungle Brothers on The Promo and don’t front. And yes, it’s better than American Gangster.

Album: The Budos Band II
I like to own music. There’s something satisfying about the ritual of discovering a new piece of music, ripping off the plastic and reading the liner notes while lighting a spliff to some new heat. From time to time, I visit Slinky Music(442 Queen St. W Toronto, Canada) to up my heatery quotient. My man Rooz put me on to this Budos Band joint the last time I was in. The band with a big horn section is enjoying quite the renaissance right now (see my post on the Hypnotic Brass Ensemble).

The album plays like a b-boy classic, front to back. And as with all Daptone recordings, the actual recording of the album sounds raw as hell. Just check out their cover of “My Girl”. Yes, that “My Girl”. Take some soul, bitches.
